69 per hour + Licenses Licenses/Certifications: MA SUMMARY The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Sanitation & Recycling Division is hiring a Special MEO/Laborer whose primary responsibility is driving semi-heavy equipment such as one-man sanitation/recycling automated side loaders, sanitation rear-load packers as part of collection operations for trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulk waste.
May also operate other semi-heavy equipment at times.
Position requires daily equipment preventive maintenance.
Position also requires retrieving, loading, and unloading solid waste, yard waste, recycling/trash carts and barrels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE Must understand route sequencing and pickup operations.
Required to assist with enforcement procedures of curbside trash reduction program (i.
e.
, Placement of Non-compliance notices).
Works with Environmental Programs Coordinator and Waste Reduction Enforcement Coordinator as needed.
Works solid waste, recycling, and yard waste collection (driving and/or laboring) as required.
Unloads truck at disposal site Lubricates truck; performs required daily preventive maintenance and cleaning as needed.
Fills out daily vehicle checklist; must be able to detect problems with moving parts of assigned vehicle (i.
e.
, Packer blades, slide shelves) Must be available for required overtime work.
May flex regular working hours to accommodate seasonal recycling or yard waste collections.
Assist with bulk waste collection, roadside clean-up, and disposal operations as required, including clean-up of illegal dumping.
Works with all DPW divisions to accomplish needed work.
May assist with snow and ice removal and/or other weather-related emergencies.
Assists with work at DPW drop-off recycling center as needed.
Must abide by City of Chicopee Health and Safety policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
Must possess excellent driving skills.
Valid CDL Class B license required.

69 per hour + Licenses, with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
