Job Summary Under the general direction of the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Operations, the MarCom Business manager provides thoughtful and direct fiscal support to University Relations’ MarCom group.
The Business Manager must exercise considerable initiative, leadership, and judgment while providing advice and guidance regarding fiscal policies and procedures.
Essential Functions Collaborates with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Operations and MarCom leadership regarding budget development and maintenance.
Recommends, implements, and forecasts budget funds and expenditures to meet current and future departmental needs.
Manages and initiates purchasing on behalf of the MarCom department, including but not limited to: contracts or bids, sole source justifications, and requisition and purchase order creation.
Supports department staff with Bank Card management, travel and reimbursement.
Responsible for the oversight of all payment and billing processes for MarCom.
Responsible for ensuring all contract administration, extensions, and enhancements are handled in an efficient and timely manner.
Serves as the primary point of contact for fiscal inquiries from MarCom leadership; provides guidance and assists in resolving fiscal issues.
Projects revenue and expenses; prepares and submits department recharges.
Performs all PeopleSoft finance operations as they interface with Summit A&F system and UMass BuyWays.
Develops, assesses, and administers complex departmental budgets; forecasts and projects spending plans.
Provides ongoing leadership to MarCom staff by training department leadership and staff on various fiscal topics.
Other Functions Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Executive Area/Division, and University goals and objectives.
Contributes toward developing a positive and respectful workplace by working creatively, collaboratively, and effectively to promote teamwork, diversity, equality and inclusiveness.
In the performance of work, takes initiative, is creative, and operates with self-direction.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure) Bachelor’s Degree and four years’ related experience.
One year of relevant experience may be substituted for every one (1) year of required academia.
Skilled in interpersonal relationships, sound verbal and written communication.
Strong organizational skills, strict attention to detail and the ability to consistently produce highly accurate work with the ability to prioritize work and complete assignments in a timely manner, balancing the demands of concurrent and potentially competing projects.
Proficiency in, and functional knowledge of, Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, internet, and database systems.
Demonstrated understanding of fiscal management principles, including budgetary/fund accounting procedures, demonstrated ability to forecast future budget needs, create annual departmental budgets and prepare periodic reports.
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure) Functional knowledge of Wrike, or other project management system Demonstrated broad knowledge of personnel and fiscal management procedures.
Experience working in a higher education administration environment.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions Typical office environment.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
