What is the Diverse Teacher Workforce Coalition (DTWC)?The DTWC was started 10 years ago by program staff at Five Colleges Inc (FCI).
At the time, FCI brought together representatives from school districts, educator preparation programs (both traditional and alternative), and community organizations in the region to address the need to diversify the teacher workforce.
Over the past 10 years, DTWC has: Provided direct services and support to Black and Latinx paraprofessionals who are working to become licensed teachers.
(This is the primary work of the Paradigm Shift Program Manager)Convened school district administrators to address systemic issues relating to recruiting and retention of a diverse workforce.
Brought together representatives to develop new programs and engage in advocacy at the local and state level to create more opportunities for people of the global majority to become licensed educators.
Since the previous Director retired two years ago, we have continued to operate with the support of the Paradigm Shift Program Manager and a volunteer team of Coalition representatives.
The positionThe DTWC Program Director will work closely with the Paradigm Shift Program Manager (who is employed by FCI) to lead the Coalition in the following areas of focus: Convene the DTWC Leadership Steering Group for monthly meetings.
Lead grant writing efforts to support continuation and expansion of DTWC programs.
Convene school district administrators for an Annual Day of Practice, focused on recruiting and retention of staff of color.
Support the work led by the Paradigm Shift Program Manager.
The Collaborative for Educational Services is hiring a Director for the Diverse Teacher Workforce Coalition.
The Director will focus on moving the strategic vision of the Coalition forward through a combination of relationship-building, outreach, fund-raising and program management.
Position is currently part-time but could increase to full-time based on funding.
Promising candidates will have 3-5 years of experience in planning, implementing, coordinating and evaluating educational programs; proven skills in successful fund-raising; expertise in the effective application of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice-oriented practices in educational settings; and strong communication and listening skills.
The Coalition was founded in 2017 specifically to foster educational success by enhancing the education of all students, particularly students of color.
We do this by addressing structural barriers that keep people of color from becoming licensed teachers and the institutional racism that permeates school culture leading to higher rates of attrition for teachers of color.
We acknowledge that some candidates, especially those from underrepresented populations in the education and non-profit workforce, may not feel their professional experience and skill-sets are a perfect match for this role.

Essential Functions: Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion.
Actively seek out, investigate and apply for state, federal, and private funding and communicate regularly about program funding with the Coalition Leadership Steering Group; Use external presence and relationships to foster existing Coalition membership and garner new opportunities.
Build on and expand partnerships and relationships across the region, with a focus on political and community leaders and potential funders.
Possess strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures Have strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills Be able to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people across multiple interests Possess passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed Preferred Qualifications: Deep connections in Western Massachusetts and an understanding of the regions unique needs and opportunities.
Existing relationships with K-12 districts, higher education and non-profit educational organizations in the region.
Terms of Employment Part-time position, 14 to 21 hours/week, days flexible, as funding allows.
