SUMMARY
The City of Chicopee’s – Building Department is hiring a Local Inspector to be responsible for enforcing the provisions of MA State Building Code (780 CMR), the MA Architectural Access Board (521 CMR), as well as the City of Chicopee Ordinances for the safety and protection of the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
The local inspector shall enforce all the provisions of 780 CMR, 521 CMR and any other state statutes, rules, regulations, ordinance.
Act on any question relative to the mode or manner of construction and materials to be used in the construction, reconstruction, alterations, repair, demolition, removal, installation of equipment and the location, use, occupancy and maintenance off all buildings and structures, except as otherwise specifically provided for by statutory requirements or as provided for in 780 CMR.
Receives applications and issues permits for the construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, demolition, removal or change in use or occupancy of buildings and structures and inspect the premises for which such permits have been issued and enforce compliance with the provisions of 780 CMR.
Issue all necessary notices or orders to ensure compliance with 780 CMR.
Make inspections as deemed necessary to ensure compliance with 780 CMR.
Shall also inspect and investigate all zoning issues as assigned by the building commissioner.

QUALIFICATIONS
To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:
Five years’ experience in the supervision of building construction or design; or
Two years associate degree in field related to building construction and design.
Must be certified by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards or have received prior approval from the Board to take said examinations according to 780 CMR R7.

This is a Full-Time, 35 hours per week position, with a schedule of 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime as needed for emergency responses.
This role is classified as Grade A09, Step 01, with a minimum starting pay of $25.
30 per hour up to Step 4 $33.
34 per hour, with periodic step and pay increases (dependent on starting step) upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
